College of Humanities CORE Program News for November 19, 2018

1. The second CORE participation essay contest for all recipients from the 19 schools participating in the CORE project has taken place. As a part of the Ministry of Education’s scholarship·study support project a grand prize and participation prize was awarded to excellent essays by SNU students at the awards ceremony. In order for devoted students aspiring to do research in the humanities to become an excellent future generation of scholars, we ask for the department professors’ continuous encouragement and guidance.


a. Grand Prize: Department of Philosophy CORE bachelor’s student Hyeon-seo Kim (Classics and Philosophy Joint Major)

b. Participation Prize: Department of Philosophy CORE bachelor’s student Sun-a Hong (Classics and Philosophy Joint Major)
                            <Setting One's Own Scholarly Stage>

c. Additional Information: this is the second time a student from the SNU Classics and Philosophy joint major is awarded the grand prize in the student essay contest

2. The CORE Masters' Study Abroad Support (field survey) for the fall semester of 2018 will be as follows. Please consult the official document sent to your department. As the end of the project grows near, we ask you to guide students through the selection process and the announcement of results so that whole process can be done in due date.


a. Purpose: to supply the opportunity and create the environment where students can learn research ethics and research trends of international standard as well as independently seek out international exchange

b. Target for Support (Must fulfill all of the requirements listed below)

   -Masters student who is currently or has experience as a recipient of CORE study support grants
   -Has plans to stay overseas for data collection and foreign research for a period of 4 weeks over the 2018 winter vacation (※ visit institution and participate in program relevant to the student’s major field only)
   -Can provide documentary evidence of plane tickets and lodging reservations and payments before leaving the country (※ Can not apply if payments will be made after leaving the country)
   -Must have plans to return to Korea before Thursday, January 31, 2019

c. Amount of Support: up to 40,000,000 KRW per person including plane tickets, lodging expense (actual expense), and cost of stay (payment based on place and length of study)

d. Registration Period: Monday, November 26, 2018 ~ 5:00 PM Friday, November 30, 2018

e. Announcement of Results: 5:00 PM Friday, February 15, 2019
